About Miss Boocher

About Me

My name is Kate Boocher. After graduating from Purdue University with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and Reading Specialtist, I moved back home, to South Bend, to teach. Currently, I am a second grade teacher in South Bend, Indiana. This is my second year teaching at St. John the Baptist, and I couldn't be more excited to start this school year.

My Philosophy

Because I am currently a second grade teacher,  my philosophy is centered around the needs of a second grade student. I strive to make my classroom developmentally appropriate and centered around the needs of each individual child. In my classroom you will find these characteristics built around my philosophy:

Strong Community of Learners: My classroom is a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for all of my students. Students will gain independence and self awareness, as well as the ability to function as a member of a group.

Positive Classroom Enviorment: Children in my classroom will be expected to follow classroom rules and conduct themselves in a manner that is safe and respectful. Good behavior and manners will be positively recognized throughout the school day.

Individualized Literacy Program: Children in my classroom will participate in a variety of activities exposing them to the meaning and excitement of language and books. Students will participate in whole group as well as differentiated literacy instruction including the use of literacy work stations, modeled and shared skills, as well as independent practice.

Creative Math Education: Students' math knowledge will be supported through the use of a wide variety of materials and meaningful experiences. We willstrive to show the clear connection between our classroom studies and the world around us.

Thematic Studies: Science and Social Studies will be integrated into every part of the curriculum to maintain students' understanding of their importance in our world.

Artistic Expression: My students are continously exposed to a vast variety of art media expressions. Students will receive several opportunities for art, music, dance and other forms of expression.
